Villa Meyra

Welcome

We are delighted to see you. Come, join us.

We offer you nature and peace, fresh air, beautiful views over the mountain plateau, comfort of our home and home made cuisine.

About us

We are the Halilovic family.

Our family has lived on the Nišići plateau for generations, and we take pride in preserving and sharing the traditions of life on this high mountain plain.

We strive to live in harmony with our surroundings, ensuring that what we do and how we live has a minimal negative impact on our environment and nature. Our farm on Nisici specialises in organic cultivation and processing of grains and of medicinal and aromatic herbs. We also produce essential oils and natural cosmetics.

Mrs. Mejra Halilovic operates our rural accommodation, with the same dedication to nature and environment. Our guests join our homestead to relax and recuperate, hike and bike across the Nisici plateau, or, during the hot summer months, dip in the lake and cool off.

Some come to work together, build their team, some come to join or enjoy our annual events, and some to learn new skills at different workshops we host.

Stay with us

We invite you to stay with us. We can offer you accommodation for up to 10 people in our three traditionally furnished rooms.

What to do
Nisici is a high Karst plateau in the vicinity of Sarajevo (30 km). It is known for the beautiful endless rolling landscape, fresh air, scattered villages – a place to go to rest, find peace and regenerate. Bijambare Nature park is part of the plateau – a system of five caves in three horizons, lost rivers, intriguing funnel-shaped depressions, rocky massifs and a 50m high waterfall.

At Nisici you can go walking or biking in the summer. We have šadrvani by the lake, covered picnic and barbecues spaces that you can enjoy with friends and family, as well as the children’s playground, volleyball court and walking trails around the lake and into the woods. In the winter, sledding brings joy and all year round you can enjoy night walks under the star-studded skies.

Or you can join us in vegetable or cereal harvesting and flour production, or harvesting different to herbs and learn about their use for teas, medicinal or cosmetic purposes. Every autumn, we make preserves, juices and jams from the fruit and produce we had grown or collected in nature.

Events

Road to Health: organic way

Every summer, in mid June, Vila Meyra hosts an event: Road to Health: organic way. The event is a gathering of the organic producers from Bosnia and Herzegovina and it provides an opportunity to learn about each other’s achievements and to network.

It is also a great opportunity for visitors to learn more about organic production and products and make connections for immediate or future purchases.

Thematic workshops

Our thematic workshops can be enjoyed as separate events or as part of your stay with us. As independent program workshops are 2 day/2nights package. As an integral part of your stay they can take up an afternoon of your time with us. The workshops communicate our traditions and the way of life, and are somewhat seasonally defined. They are all led by local experts – ladies who have learned the skills from their mothers and grandmothers.

The workshops are designed for groups of 5-10 people.

Nisici culinary traditions

This program is tailored depending on the season/time of the year. Spring period (March-May) allows for insight into medicinal and other herbs harvesting and tea preparation and vegetable garden planting. June is rich with making different products from rose petals and making jams and juices. July and August are dominated by lavender and distillation of herbs such as immortelle, as well as cereal harvest. With auditum (September to November) collecting and processing different fruits and mushrooms comes into focus and pickling vegetables for winter.

Finally, winter time (December-February) provides insight into cereal grinding and flour making.

Nisici landscapes

The landscapes workshop is focused on painting. Whether you are after a specific detail or the wide spaces, you will enjoy the dedicated guidance by an academically trained painter. With your skills improved, or maybe even first discovered, the time spent at Vila Meyra will also recharge you with fresh air, refreshing walks and gorgeous food.

Woolen traditions - felt making

Wool has been an important natural product for people of Nisici. The Nisici plateau enjoys strong winters, with low temperatures, regular snow and strong winds. Wool, as a product, has been a staple in providing warm clothing and protection from natural elements for the local population.

This workshop looks at the skill of felting and teaches the core skill for making different clothing segments – from gloves and hats to larger items such as wests and similar.

Woolen traditions - knitting

Recognising the importance of wool for the population of Nisici, this second workshop focuses on knitting. Knitting skills provided the families with socks and vests and jumpers, with patterns and colours often becoming trademarks for women and their families.

Workshops are for groups of 5-10 people.
